After a hiatus of nearly four years, Serena Williams made a successful comeback to professional tennis on Tuesday at Queen’s Club in London. At the age of 44, Williams proved her enduring strength and skill by hitting service winners clocked at up to 120 mph. She teamed up with 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko in the grass-court tournament.
In their opening doubles match, Williams and Mboko triumphed over the third-seeded duo of Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe with a scoreline of 7-6 (2), 6-2. This match marked Williams’ return to professional play since her last appearance at the 2022 U.S. Open. To conclude the match, Williams showcased her powerful serve, finishing with two aces followed by a service winner.
Last week, Williams announced her return to the doubles scene. However, she has not yet made a decision regarding a potential comeback to singles competition.
