Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges, stars of the New York Knicks, have made history by becoming the first trio of teammates to win both a national college title and an NBA championship together. The Knicks triumphed over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals, marking the team’s first championship win since 1973.
Named the NBA Finals MVP, Brunson co-hosts the popular “Roommates Show” podcast with Hart, where humor often takes center stage. However, their successes highlight a deeper bond among the three teammates.
During a recent appearance on the “TODAY” show with Jenna Bush Hager, the three players were asked if this NBA title felt especially meaningful given their shared history at Villanova. Brunson jested, “It’s a lot more special knowing me and Mikal have one more [championship] than Josh.” Beneath the humor lies a strong connection rooted in their collective past achievements.
Brunson reflected, “It’s special knowing that when we were younger, we aimed to make it to the NBA. We achieved great things in college, and now twice as much for me and Mikal — a little dig at Josh. But in all situations, we support each other. We care deeply for one another.”
Adding to the camaraderie, Brunson shared a heartfelt message from Hart. “He texted us saying, ‘I can’t express this in person because I might get emotional, but I love you guys. It’s amazing to share this journey with you.’ Our bond is unique,” Brunson shared.
The trio’s journey began with the Villanova Wildcats, where they clinched the 2016 NCAA national championship. Following this, Hart was drafted 30th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft, and Brunson and Bridges were key players in Villanova’s 2018 NCAA victory. Subsequently, Bridges was drafted 10th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers, and Brunson went 33rd overall to the Dallas Mavericks in 2018.
Brunson joined the Knicks in July 2022, with Bridges and Hart later uniting with the team. Hart was acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2023. A significant trade in July 2024 brought Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets to the Knicks, swapping him for five first-round picks.
