Pink Boots Make a Bold Statement at the World Cup

Gio Reyna, Vinícius Junior, Kylian Mbappé, and Harry Kane have captured attention in the World Cup with their impressive goals. What connects these star players? Pink boots.

The World Cup, held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, features an array of colors, yet pink stands out on the field. Many players don pink boots, crafted by several footwear companies focused on both performance and visibility.

Athletes associate this color with confidence and standing out, and that resonates, Nike Director of Global Footwear Odinga Nimako said.

In 1998, Nike’s silver, yellow, and blue boots changed perspectives in soccer, moving away from traditional black and white. Now, Nike, Adidas, Puma, Skechers, and New Balance join the trend with pink boots.

M bappé and Vinícius sport Nike boots, joined by Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland. Reyna, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Jonathan David, Lamine Yamal, and Ousmane Dembélé choose Adidas. Neymar Jr. often plays in Puma pink, and Weston McKennie follows suit. Timothy Weah prefers New Balance, while Kane and Anthony Elanga wear Skechers.

The colorways reflect the breathtaking palette of an L.A. sunset, Skechers Director of Technical Performance Alex Bardini remarked, inspired by southern California’s vibrant hues.

From Los Angeles to Boston, pink is already a winner even before the tournament concludes. In Monterrey, Mexico, Sweden’s pink-booted players helped with a decisive victory over Tunisia.

While the color pink does not enhance performance, company executives emphasize the mindset it fosters. Bardini highlights comfort and performance as Skechers’ priorities. Nimako notes Nike’s focus on aerodynamic designs, adding, When an athlete puts on a Mercurial, it looks fast, feels locked in, and weighs next to nothing, that perception reinforces performance.
