A teenager from Yonkers, New York, who was engaged on TikTok, tragically lost her life in a premeditated murder. A court declared this in its recent ruling on Saturday.
The victim, Hira Anwar, aged 14, was lured to Pakistan and brutally shot in January 2025. Her murder took place outside the family home in Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan Province.
Her father, Anwar-ul-Haq, a naturalized U.S. citizen and Uber driver, initially reported her death as an act by unidentified gunmen. However, investigations revealed that the murder was a plotted act by him and his brother-in-law.
The court sentenced both men to life imprisonment. Anwar-ul-Haq’s primary motive was believed to be his daughter’s adopted ‘Western’ lifestyle, which he saw as dishonoring to his family.
Hira, who attended Public School 16 in Yonkers, was appreciated for her enthusiastic personality and her trending TikTok posts, especially those involving Zayn Malik and Chase Atlantic.
The father’s disapproval rooted from Hira’s interactions on social media and with peers deemed inappropriate by him. His discontents led him to devise a plot, misleadingly inviting her to Pakistan for a supposed family vacation and enlisting aid from relatives there.
