Three Arrested in Murder of Texas Mother of Five

Two sisters and a friend face murder charges after a 32-year-old mother of five was fatally stabbed in Texas. The Del Rio Police Department announced the arrests of Kitty Mia Diaz, 21; Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19; and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21. The victim, Caroline “Caro” Peña, died following the attack.

Peña’s friend, Zelina Ochoa, recounted her dedication to motherhood, expressing the loss felt by those who knew her. Del Rio, located near the Mexican border, is home to approximately 35,000 residents.

Authorities responded to Val Verde Regional Medical Center after reports of a woman with stab wounds at a busy intersection. The attack occurred near Sonic around 2:10 p.m. on Thursday. Due to the seriousness of her injuries, Peña was transferred to a San Antonio medical facility, but she later succumbed to her injuries.

Police reviewed surveillance, analyzed evidence, and conducted interviews to identify the suspects. The Diaz sisters were detained around 4 p.m. without resistance, while Faz was apprehended shortly afterward. Christina Salinas, another friend, shared her sorrow for not answering a call from Peña shortly before the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and a motive has not been revealed. Additional charges may be filed as evidence accumulates. All suspects are held at the GEO Correctional Facility awaiting court proceedings.

Peña is survived by her five children, with the eldest being a 17-year-old son, along with her twin sister. Her willingness to help others is fondly remembered by those she left behind.
