Impact of War on Tehran Residents’ Livelihoods

Before the onset of conflict, Roya, a 34-year-old data analyst manager, enjoyed a thriving career at a brokerage firm in central Tehran. However, the situation changed drastically in February when U.S. and Israeli forces launched attacks on Iran.

As a result, Roya found herself unemployed. This shift left her, along with millions of other Iranians, grappling with the rising costs of daily necessities.

A Tehran resident expressed concerns over the increased financial burden, stating, “Everyday expenses have doubled.” This remark highlights the economic challenges that citizens face as a direct consequence of the ongoing conflict.

Challenges extend beyond personal finances, as visible reminders of the conflict have surfaced in everyday spaces. For instance, graffiti featuring the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei can be seen on the wall of a fruit shop in the city.
