Briscoe’s Midwest Triumph

Chase Briscoe, hailing from Mitchell, Indiana, crafted an All-American triumph at Chicagoland Speedway, marking NASCAR’s return to Joliet since 2019. In celebration of his sponsor Bass Pro Shops, Briscoe mimicked fishing motions to embrace the win. He expressed his joy, stating, “This was the most American I’ll ever feel in my life.” The victory coincided with Fourth of July weekend and America’s 250th year, making the win even more significant.

Race Highlights

Briscoe secured his first Cup Series victory, holding off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell in front of a sold-out crowd during the eero 400 event. Denny Hamlin extended his lead with a third-place finish. Meanwhile, William Byron led for 94 laps, winning the first two stages but finishing fourth. Previous champion Alex Bowman placed fifth. Notable racers Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, Corey Heim, and Riley Herbst finished in the top ten.

Tyler Reddick, previously trailing Hamlin by one point, had difficulties, finishing 36th due to radiator issues.

Briscoe’s Determination

With 42 laps remaining, Briscoe overtook the lead, maintaining it against Bell’s strong push. Briscoe acknowledged Bell’s pursuit, reflecting, “I just knew I had to be perfect.” Winning on a 1.5-mile track at Chicagoland held significance for Briscoe, as he cherished the Midwest track known for its NASCAR heritage.

Celebrated Personalities

Joliet Catholic alum and Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott led the pace car, expressing pride in representing NASCAR and Joliet. “It’s great to be back home,” Alstott remarked.

Special Weekend for Gibbs

Joe Gibbs, renowned NFL coach, celebrated as one of his cars won. “I appreciate everyone in Chicago,” Gibbs said, commending the supportive fans. Fellow Gibbs driver Bell missed victory lane but maintained optimism, highlighting the strength of Toyotas in the race.

A Birthday Win

Briscoe shared another cause for celebration, attributing the win as a present for his crew chief, James Small, on his birthday.
