Federal Immigration Agent’s Shooting in Houston Sparks Concerns

In recent developments surrounding President Trump’s deportation policy, federal agents have fired upon at least 21 individuals. Many incidents occurred with the victims in their vehicles. Tragically, five people have died, including three U.S. citizens.

On Tuesday, a federal immigration agent fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, in Houston. This marks the 21st shooting tied to the rigorous deportation initiative since Trump commenced his second term in January 2025.

“Weaponized his vehicle” – ICE officials statement

The incident involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers stopping Araujo’s vehicle around 6:50 a.m. Officers attempted to arrest him. ICE claimed Araujo attempted to run over the agent, prompting the agent to fire in self-defense.

However, federal officials often use similar wording to justify shootings by immigration agents. These accounts frequently face scrutiny in court, challenging initial claims that officers were assaulted or harmed.

Currently, no evidence has been presented to validate the ICE statement regarding Araujo’s shooting. He sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and later died in a hospital, as confirmed by Rustin Rawlings, spokesperson for the Houston Fire Department.
