A new legislative proposal named Orlin’s Law has been introduced by Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington). The bill aims to prevent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from detaining or deporting immigrant parents, provided they do not pose a public safety risk.
This initiative comes in response to a tragic incident involving a three-year-old Florida boy who lost his life after his mother was deported by ICE. The proposal reflects growing concerns about the impact of immigration enforcement on families, emphasizing the need for policies that prioritize family unity and child welfare.
Orlin’s Law seeks to ensure that ICE focuses on individuals who are genuine threats, rather than separating families who contribute positively to their communities. The move is part of a broader discussion on immigration reform, which advocates believe can strike a balance between national security and human rights.
