Closure Announcement

After extensive efforts to preserve the institution, Roycemore School in Evanston will close. Parents organized fundraisers, board members sought alumni donations, and administrators searched for benefactors. Despite these efforts contrasting with the school’s significant enrollment drop, the Board of Trustees announced on July 15 that the school would suspend operations.

The Board stated, “After carefully reviewing our enrollment data and financial projections, the Board of Trustees has made the heartbreaking decision to suspend Roycemore School’s operations. As a result, Roycemore will not open for the 2026-27 academic year.”

Previous Encouragement

In June, administrators informed parents that the school would remain open for the upcoming year due to positive fundraising efforts. Board members mentioned a viable path forward contingent on achieving necessary enrollment. However, subsequent communications revealed a significant decline in confirmed student enrollment.

Financial Challenges

An anonymous donor provided a financial reprieve allowing completion of the 2025-26 academic year. However, it did not cover future operating costs. To process additional grant funds, the donor required specific criteria, including tuition payment and potential school sale or merger.

Decline in Enrollment

The Board confirmed the decline in enrollment was below anticipated levels, impacting grant funding. Measures like retaining tuition contracts were necessary for continued support, but the numbers fell short.

The Board expressed that every alternative was explored before making the decision. They considered the importance of maintaining educational quality before reopening the school.

Transition Plans

Administrators are working to transfer student transcripts and records to new schools. Families who paid tuition will receive information on reimbursement.

Interim Head of School Paul Druzinsky expressed deep sadness over the closure, believing efforts to keep the school open were exhaustive. Druzinsky brought experience managing schools in similar situations.

Druzinsky succeeded Morgan Busbey as interim head following a leadership shakeup. He affirmed the Board avoided detrimental decisions to faculty and children. Despite efforts, enrollment uncertainty compelled this outcome.
