Boston Red Sox Achieve Historic 15-Game Winning Streak

The Boston Red Sox achieved a historic milestone by winning their 15th consecutive game, a feat last accomplished in 1946 when Ted Williams led the team to an American League championship. On Wednesday, they defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader, tying the record from 80 years ago.

Interim manager Chad Tracy recognized the significance of this accomplishment. ‘I’ve read some stuff. I know Ted Williams was around back then, so I’m aware of the year and how long it’s been,’ he noted. ‘It’s cool that they’ve accomplished something great.’

After the game, the Red Sox took extra time on the field at Fenway Park, celebrating to the sound of The Standells’ ‘Dirty Water,’ a traditional victory song. They also continued the celebration in the clubhouse. ‘Absolutely between the staff,’ Tracy said. ‘The guys were going crazy in the locker room — they always do — but even more emphasis right now with what we’re going through. Everybody enjoys it for sure.’

Earlier in the season, Boston fired manager Alex Cora following a 10-17 start, and Tracy stepped in. On July 1, the team was 37-48 and at the bottom of the AL East. Since then, they haven’t lost a game. Tracy managed to lead a team to a 15-game win streak in his interim position, a rare feat in MLB history.

During the game against Baltimore, Boston built a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Jake Bennett, the starting pitcher, allowed only three runs over 5 2/3 innings. With a 6-3 lead after six innings, Caleb Durbin started anticipating the team’s win. ‘In the seventh inning I’m counting them down a little bit,’ he said with a smile.

Post-victory, left fielder Jarren Duran shared the moment with teammates Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu, enjoying the cheers from the crowd. ‘When I get to go see (them), I take a look around and I get to enjoy that moment, that’s always fun,’ Duran expressed.

For some players, the achievement carries historical weight. ‘You look back at and think about where you’re doing it and how long this franchise has existed. It’s been incredible,’ Durbin remarked. ‘It feels great. One win closer to 16 to break it. I’m just glad we’ve got another one to play today.’

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz also acknowledged the impressive streak. ‘A 15-game heater is really impressive,’ he commented. ‘You know, it’s tough to win one game in the big leagues and them going 15 straight, it’s really impressive.’
