Timothy Olyphant Discusses His Old-School Tech Choices on ‘SmartLess’ Podcast

Timothy Olyphant, known for his roles in ‘Justified’ and ‘Deadwood,’ recently discussed his low-tech lifestyle on the ‘SmartLess’ podcast. Olyphant, who does not own a computer, shared the lengths he went to in order to participate in the interview with hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes.

Olyphant’s Tech Approach

During the podcast, the 58-year-old actor revealed he had to resurrect an ancient computer for the interview. Eventually, he ended up using a friend’s office. ‘I needed a computer,’ Olyphant said. ‘I guess you can’t do your show if you don’t own a computer.’

Despite the push from the hosts to consider an upgrade, Olyphant remained firm. He stated, ‘I got like a phone and I got a thing, that’s all you gotta do.’

A Reluctant Computer Owner

Olyphant explained that he technically owns a desktop computer, but it had been unused for so long that it became a project. He noted, ‘We went and got out an old desktop that we still have in the house, plugged it in, and started it up.’

There’s a lot of sacrifices that went into this, guys,’ he joked. ‘I’m super honored, and it is a pleasure to be here. I’m a big fan.’

Bateman continued to probe, questioning why Olyphant isn’t tempted by modern technology and different websites. Olyphant replied dismissively, noting the conversation felt condescending.

Views on AI and Technology

The discussion shifted to artificial intelligence, with Bateman pondering Olyphant’s interest in AI. ‘All this talk about AI and stuff. Not curious?’ Bateman asked.

Olyphant responded, ‘But you can do all that on… on the little phones.’

Olyphant’s Career Highlights

Timothy Olyphant has had a significant impact on the entertainment industry with roles in ‘Santa Clarita Diet,’ ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’ He first gained prominence with the cult crime comedy ‘Go’ in 1999, followed by his acclaimed performances in ‘Deadwood’ and ‘Justified.’
