Florida Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting ‘Sugar Baby’

A 67-year-old man, David Allen O’Brien, was taken into custody after an incident involving a 21-year-old woman he had met through a dating app. The confrontation escalated after O’Brien allegedly pursued and rammed the woman’s car, followed by threatening a 22-year-old man with a rifle, as stated in the arrest report.

Details of the Incident

O’Brien, a resident of The Villages, a large retirement community in central Florida, had engaged the woman in a “sugar baby” arrangement through Tinder. He reportedly offered financial compensation in exchange for companionship.

The pair decided to meet on July 21. According to the affidavit, O’Brien promised the woman $1,000 for each meeting, including dinner and a shopping spree. On meeting, O’Brien gave her $200 and treated her to shopping for lingerie. They later went to dinner, where he gave her an additional $600. However, the evening took a turn when they returned to O’Brien’s house, and the woman requested her friends to pick her up after feeling uncomfortable.

The Confrontation

The arrest report describes how O’Brien grew upset when the woman intended to leave and requested her to return the money. As she left in a car with her friends, O’Brien pursued them in his Ford F-150, eventually ramming their vehicle. This action caused the car to collide with a telephone pole at a traffic circle.

Subsequently, a 22-year-old male, who was among the group, faced a threat from O’Brien. Reports indicate that O’Brien pointed a 22 semi-automatic Ruger at the man’s face, instructing him to lie on the ground. Fortunately, the man managed to escape when O’Brien became distracted.

Police Involvement

Authorities arrived to find O’Brien near his truck with the weapon. He claimed that the lack of proper taillights on the woman’s car signaled that he had been “scammed.” O’Brien was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, without intent to kill, and aggravated battery. He was transferred to Sumter County Jail without incident. His arraignment is scheduled for August 14, as per records.
