Marvel Introduces New X-Men Cast
The long-awaited ensemble of Marvel’s new X-Men movie finally appeared together during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced Sadie Sink, who joins as Jean Grey after her secretive role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ Director Jake Schreier joined Feige in welcoming the rest of the cast, including Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will portray Mr. Sinister as Nathaniel Milbury in a recorded video message. The ‘X-Men’ film will release on May 5, 2028.
D23 Highlights Disney’s Upcoming Projects
Held at the Honda Center, the Disney Entertainment Showcase is a key part of the D23 fan event. It highlights Disney’s forthcoming films and series. New CEO Josh D’Amaro received enthusiastic applause from over 12,000 attendees. ‘Zootopia 2’ stars Ke Huy Quan and Ginnifer Goodwin hosted the event, meeting acknowledgment from stars like Anne Hathaway, the Jonas brothers, Kathryn Hahn, and the team of ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
Marvel’s Future on Television
During the showcase, Marvel Studios shed light on ‘VisionQuest,’ the Disney+ series with Paul Bettany and James Spader following ‘WandaVision.’ The show tackles Vision’s exploration of identity and humanity. Marvel’s focus remained on films, leaving the future of its televised series uncertain. This follows the cancellation of ‘Wonder Man’ Season 2 and reduced live-action shows.
Lucasfilm Presents Star Wars Updates
Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni led the presentation with compelling updates on ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 and ‘Star Wars: Starfighter.’ Rosario Dawson introduced Hayden Christensen and Eman Esfandi, receiving an impressive response from fans. Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling discussed ‘Star Wars: Starfighter,’ set in a previously unexplored era of the galaxy, starring Gosling as Kade Auberon.
Disney Relies on Nostalgia
The event spotlighted sequels to beloved franchises. Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino reprised their Romy and Michele roles, while Anne Hathaway and the Jonas brothers promoted ‘Princess Diaries 3’ and ‘Camp Rock 3,’ respectively. Kathryn Hahn’s depiction of Mother Gothel for ‘Tangled’ (2028) was revealed, and Jon Favreau introduced ‘Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.’ On the animation front, sequels such as ‘Incredibles 3,’ ‘Coco 2,’ and ‘Frozen III’ were announced. The new ‘Coco’ sequel transports Miguel back to the land of the dead, and ‘Frozen III’ promises an eventful marriage and new magical encounters.
Upcoming Original Films
Although sequels dominated the event, new original stories from Pixar and Disney Animation remain in the works. Animation fans can look forward to productions like ‘Hexed,’ featuring Hailee Steinfeld, set for release in November 2025. Disney’s ‘Clay,’ about a mentor-student relationship, arrives in 2028. Pixar’s upcoming projects include ‘Ghost Market,’ set in Hawaii, and ‘Gatto’ from ‘Luca’ director Enrico Casarosa.
