CNN anchor and chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins shared her thoughts on President Donald Trump’s comments during and after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Collins, who received an award at the event, emphasized, “It’s not about me.”
In a preview clip from her upcoming interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, Collins remarked, “I don’t want it to be about my reaction. Making it about that turns it into a back-and-forth between us. Instead, it’s more effective to focus on the question or the reporting that upset him. My award seems to have provoked him, but the focus should remain on the work, the questions, and the non-answers we receive.”
“It’s crucial to emphasize the journalism work, reminding people of the substance behind the insults,” Collins added.

During the dinner, Trump mocked Collins, saying she “never smiles” when he speaks. This comment is part of Trump’s ongoing critique of Collins, often triggered by her White House coverage and questions during press briefings. He labeled the award she won as “fake” but added a congratulatory note.
On Truth Social, Trump shared an altered image of a Bud Light ad featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, replacing Mulvaney’s face with that of Collins. This AI-generated image underscores Trump’s continued criticism of the CNN journalist following her speech at the dinner.
Pattern of Criticism Against Female Journalists
Trump’s comments align with his broader pattern of public disputes with female journalists. Collins has often been targeted by Trump, who has called her the “worst reporter.” Other journalists, including ABC News’ Mary Bruce, Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey, and CBS News’ Nancy Cordes, have also faced personal attacks from Trump after challenging him with difficult questions.
