Secret Service Reveals Increased Threats to Presidency

Fox News recently featured a significant revelation by the Secret Service concerning the sharp rise in threats against the presidency. Secret Service Director Sean Curran discussed the issue in a joint interview with CBS’ ’60 Minutes.’ Curran highlighted a 40% increase in threats compared to the previous year, describing the situation as unprecedented.

During the interview, Curran and Deputy Director Matt Quinn faced questions about the reasons behind this rise. Curran mentioned the influence of the internet, while interviewer Norah O’Donnell speculated about the impact of President Donald Trump’s divisive reputation. “President Trump is a highly polarizing figure,” O’Donnell noted.

“We are an apolitical organization. We’re here to protect who we’re sworn to protect,” Curran responded.

Quinn added that the increase in threats might stem from broader societal issues, particularly mental health challenges. “The world is different than what it was 20 years ago,” Curran remarked, citing changes brought about by social media.

Both officials refrained from disclosing whether threats predominantly came from left-wing or right-wing sources. This decision was based on their non-partisan approach to handling threats. They referenced concerns related to both the Capitol riots and Trump assassination attempts.

Curran, having been the lead agent during the 2024 assassination attempt, stressed the need for vigilance. He also addressed reports about a tactical switch of Air Force One, stating that such maneuvers require confidentiality to remain effective.

Quinn supported the prioritization of the president’s safety over all others, even agents. “The mission is to protect the president of the United States,” he asserted.

Amid these developments, the Secret Service is under scrutiny following the suspension of three officials in August. Furthermore, the FBI has delayed releasing documents related to an attempt on Trump’s life at a rally in Pennsylvania, which Judicial Watch’s Thomas Fitton has criticized.

Fox News Digital contacted the White House for comments on these matters.
