The Local Donut, a doughnut shop in Scottsdale, Arizona, has been in operation for a decade under the ownership of Daniel Tes. Although ten years of success typically indicate a thriving business, this past summer presented unprecedented challenges for the shop.
“Many small businesses face challenges, but this year was particularly difficult,” Tes shared with FOX 10 Phoenix. The business struggled after spring training, falling behind in preparations for the summer season.
Facing this financial hurdle, Tes found himself unable to pay employees. Desperate to keep the business afloat, he reached out through social media, seeking assistance from both the community and faith.
The response was remarkable. The following day, a flood of patrons arrived to show their support. Tes’s message not only attracted customers but also inspired local businesses to act. Some of these businesses prepaid for customers, demonstrating community solidarity.
“There’s a lot of selfless and generous people,” Tes expressed, acknowledging the overwhelming support the shop received.
Regular customers were equally relieved, grateful that their favorite doughnut shop was not forced to close due to a streak of bad luck. As one repeat visitor, Harris Dozier, remarked, “They offer excellent choices and the staff is very friendly, making it an ideal spot for a quick doughnut.”
Because of the community’s generosity, The Local Donut remains open for business. Tes is committed to continuing serving the community and hopes to return the kindness he received.
“I am eager to pay it forward,” Tes affirmed, reflecting on the support that saved his business.
