Tragic Beach Attack in Russia
Vacationers faced terror on Monday in a Russian Black Sea resort town when a projectile struck a crowded beach. The incident in Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik resulted in seven fatalities, including four children, and injuries to many others.
“A horrifying attack,” described by the Russian Mission in Geneva on the social media platform X, accusing Ukraine of targeting civilians via a drone.
Drone Attack Accusations
Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev labeled it as a targeted attack against civilians, sharing on Telegram that the strike affected a non-military zone. He condemned it as an unjustifiable terrorist act.
Andriy Kovalenko, a Ukrainian Defense Forces officer, challenged Russia’s claim. He argued that Russian air defenses intercepted the drone, resulting in debris landing on the beach, causing casualties.
Disturbing Footage Reveals Chaos
Footage from the site captured sounds similar to gunfire moments before the explosion. The drone appeared to abruptly change direction and plummet toward the beach, leading to widespread panic.
Russian reports have identified that several deaths were due to “falling drone debris” at the site, according to Governor Kondratyev.
Accusations Against Russia’s Leadership
In another statement, Kovalenko suggested Ukraine’s tactics aim at Russian military infrastructure to impact funding for the war. He accused President Putin of misleading the public about safety from war by minimizing the threat of daily explosions.
Kovalenko claimed Putin’s decisions, including placing air defenses around populated areas such as the Black Sea resort, have led to these tragic events.
