President Donald Trump has called upon U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro to re-evaluate the recently dismissed charges related to vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The president’s comments came after photographs emerged, allegedly showing vandalism at the site.
Trump shared on Truth Social that witnesses observed people with their hands in the water at the damaged areas. It was alleged that the material was cut with a knife.
The president expressed strong disagreement with Pirro’s decision to drop the case against David Hearn, a former Olympian indicted on charges of felony destruction of property. Trump criticized Pirro for bowing to pressure from a judge and claimed her decision was hasty, especially given ties to ActBlue.
David Hearn was indicted on July 2 for allegedly damaging the pool’s coating, with U.S. Park Police reporting over $1,000 in damages. However, Pirro’s office pointed to the Department of the Interior’s failure to provide full reports on existing issues with the coating’s installation.
Prosecutors later received documentation showing the damage was largely due to flawed installation by Atlantic Industrial Coatings, compounded by rushed completion for upcoming events. Despite initial allegations, the new evidence led prosecutors to ask the court to dismiss the case, allowing for potential future charges.
Hearn’s legal team criticized the government for its handling of the case, calling it an abuse of power. They highlighted the importance of receiving an apology for their client, who they argue did nothing wrong.
