A teacher in Kentucky is accused of crossing the line into criminal behavior following allegations involving a student. Sadie M. Flores, 25, from Mayfield, was arrested on Friday and charged with grooming a minor, a newly classified Class D felony in Kentucky as of July 15.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office reports that Flores, an employee at Graves County Middle School, was allegedly involved in an improper relationship with a minor student in her district.
According to authorities, the initial report of the allegations was made to Graves County Schools, and school administrators promptly informed the Graves County Sheriff’s Office. This prompted a criminal investigation.
The investigation included seizing electronic records and conducting interviews. Flores was questioned on Friday afternoon and subsequently taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. She was first held at the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being moved to a different detention facility.
Sheriff Jon Hayden has indicated that the investigation is still ongoing.
“District administration was made aware of an allegation involving a teacher at Graves County Middle School. School officials immediately reported this information to the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for investigation,” Superintendent Matt Madding said.
Superintendent Matt Madding emphasized the district’s commitment to student safety, noting that while the investigation is active, public discussion is limited. “We take any allegation involving the safety of a child or the professional conduct of an employee extremely seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities,” he stated.
The charge against Flores follows a new Kentucky law targeting adults who create inappropriate relationships with minors before sexual abuse occurs.
Further details about the alleged relationship, including the student’s age, have not been disclosed. Authorities have not ruled out additional charges as the investigation proceeds.
