A Nashville U-Haul employee is accused of fatally shooting his 56-year-old co-worker during their shift. Police reports state an argument over a drink led Devin Rice, 23, to fire multiple shots at Fredrick Lytton.
The incident occurred at a U-Haul location in Nashville, Tennessee. Lytton was pronounced dead after being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Rice admitted to the argument and the shooting, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Rice faces a criminal homicide charge after the alleged shooting. Authorities claim he used a pistol to shoot Lytton multiple times. Following the incident, Rice reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended.
Local resident Joshua Houghtaylen commented on the increase in crime, emphasizing the need for police to address gun violence in Nashville. “Police need to do a better job at getting the guns off the street because there’s a lot of shootings in Nashville,” he told WSMV.
Jeff Porter, U-Haul’s area district vice president for Tennessee, expressed shock and sadness over the event. He underscored support for the victim’s family and affected team members in a statement to Fox News Digital.
Fredrick Lytton, remembered for his dedication as a cross-country truck driver, enjoyed NASCAR, animals, and country music, according to his obituary. It notes, “Though Fred’s life was taken too soon, his memories and the love he shared with family and friends will remain forever.”
