Sophie Cunningham Receives Mention from Trump at Ohio Rally

During a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, President Donald Trump mentioned Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham, highlighting her appeal. Trump described the star player as “beautiful” and noted her ability to draw spectators, stating, “A lot of men [want] to go and watch her.” He acknowledged the sensitivity of such comments in modern politics, adding, “You’re not allowed to say that anymore, however, as a politician. Please, please, let me take it back. Anytime a politician says a woman is beautiful, that’s generally the end of his political career in the modern-day politic world.”

The president further remarked that Cunningham’s presence on a team could boost game attendance. He shared, “Sophie is a beautiful young woman. You probably wouldn’t mind her on the team, not to help you with points, but to help you with attendance. The attendance would be great.”

Cunningham has grown in popularity as a fan favorite for the Fever. She is known for her support of teammate Caitlin Clark, especially during challenging game moments. Her name gained attention following her statement that “biological males should not play in girls’ and women’s sports.” She stated, “I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

She emphasized the importance of safeguarding young female athletes, saying, “It’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category.”
