The upcoming football season is crucial for South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and quarterback LaNorris Sellers. With a record of 4-8 in 2025, Beamer faces pressure to improve. Sellers, considered a contentious prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, could be picked on either Day 1 or Day 3, depending on his performance this fall.
On Sunday, South Carolina announced unfortunate injuries concerning two wide receivers that affect both Sellers and Beamer this season. Jayden Sellers, LaNorris’ brother, and Jayden Gibson will miss the entire 2026 season due to injuries. South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer expressed his disappointment, noting, “I am extremely disappointed for both of these young men. I know how hard each of them has worked over the spring and summer in getting ready for 2026 to help our team. I have full confidence they will both overcome the adversity they’re facing, and we will help them in whatever way we can throughout the rehab process moving forward.”
Jayden Sellers played his first season with the team in 2025, achieving 22 receptions for 337 yards and one touchdown. His performance significantly boosted the offense towards the end of that season. He had a standout game against Coastal Carolina on November 22, delivering four catches for 127 yards and a touchdown in a decisive 51-7 victory for South Carolina. In the subsequent game against Clemson on November 29, he recorded five receptions for 67 yards.
Jayden Gibson, a senior from Apopka, Florida, standing six-foot-five and weighing 205 pounds, had a notable season in 2023 with Oklahoma. He caught 14 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns. His best performance came against BYU on November 18, where he caught 14 passes for 375 yards and a touchdown. Gibson missed the entire 2024 season due to injury and did not record any catches in 2025.
Despite these setbacks, South Carolina has a promising trio in Nitro Tuggle, Mazeo Bennett Jr., and Nyck Harbor. However, the depth of the Gamecocks’ roster will be tested with the absence of Jayden Sellers and Gibson.
