Orland Park Board Approves $275 Million Cancer Facility at Northwestern Medicine

The Orland Park Village Board approved a $275 million project on Monday to expand Northwestern Medicine’s campus near Centennial Park. This development includes a cancer facility and parking structure, enhancing local medical services.

Board member John Lawler expressed support, highlighting the facility’s value to the community. The addition serves the area’s aging population by offering treatment options locally, eliminating the need for travel downtown.

Northwestern Medicine received a $225 million contribution from the St. George Foundation for a four-story office building and a 484-car parking garage. This partnership aims to improve health services in the southwest region, reflecting shared goals with the medical center.

The facility will feature infusion stations, diagnostic imaging, and radiation treatment. More details will follow as plans develop. Meanwhile, there are expectations of expanded services within existing areas.

Northwestern awaits state-level approvals, anticipated by September. Construction plans to start in the fall and conclude by 2029. The Village Board adjusted building regulations regarding distance from wetlands, allowing construction closer to these areas, and increased the maximum height slightly.

Mayor Jim Dodge supports these modifications, describing them as minor and beneficial for encouraging development. The expansions, including the University of Chicago Medical Center’s planned development, strengthen Orland Park’s reputation for top-tier medical care.
