This eagerly awaited racing event is set to take place on the streets of Washington, D.C., offering high-speed thrills in the nation’s capital. The NTT IndyCar Series is known for its historic Indianapolis 500, but the Freedom 250 promises to be an extraordinary event. It allows America’s leading open-wheel series to race past some of the country’s most iconic sites. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood joined the broadcast to discuss this special event.
Buxton expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s going to be absolutely incredible — a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see IndyCars racing around the nation’s capital.” He noted the historical significance of auto racing in America, linking it to the country’s love for cars since the late 1800s.
Newgarden, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, emphasized the uniqueness of the event. He sees it as a rare chance to race in the nation’s capital and aims to achieve victory with Team Penske, proudly representing the country.
Kirkwood, currently ranked second in the championship standings, relished the opportunity to compete on a street circuit in D.C. He described the scenic course, which includes a start-finish line with the U.S. Capitol Building as a backdrop. Kirkwood noted the extensive preparation for this event, with Pennsylvania Avenue and surrounding areas ready for the grand race.
The two-day event is expected to draw 100,000 spectators. It begins with practice sessions on Saturday morning, followed by qualifying in the evening. The main race starts at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, with pre-race coverage commencing at 11:30 a.m. on FOX.
