Minnesota Attorney General Sues Texas Governor Over Extradition Refusal

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced a lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday. The lawsuit claims Abbott is not complying with the extradition of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent charged with shooting an immigrant. This incident occurred during the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, known as Operation Metro Surge.

The charged individual, Christian Castro, is currently detained in a Texas jail. The legal action highlights ongoing disputes over state cooperation in law enforcement matters that cross state lines.

During a news conference in St. Paul, Ellison stated the need for accountability in matters of law enforcement conduct, emphasizing the importance of extraditing individuals charged with crimes. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty also attended.
