ICE agents are set to receive a new enforcement tool. These are gloves capable of delivering painful electric shocks. This addition joins the arsenal of firearms, stun guns, and pepper spray currently used by the agents. The Department of Homeland Security describes this as an important nonlethal option.
However, there is concern among advocates. They argue that ICE officers have previously misused existing enforcement tools. Such misuse has sometimes led to deadly outcomes.
The company producing these devices advises caution. They recommend against using the gloves on sensitive groups. These groups include small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and ‘severely handicapped’ individuals.
An example of these gloves in use was documented at the Oklahoma County Detention Center in Oklahoma City in 2024. This event was captured by Nathan J. Fish of the USA Today Network through Reuters Connect and dated August 19, 2026.
