Authorities are actively searching for Zymire Hughes, 22, who is accused of terrorizing several individuals in downtown Philadelphia while wearing a Chucky-style Halloween mask. Surveillance footage has provided insights into the incident that occurred on August 12.
Police Pursuit
Two officers initially followed Hughes but lost track of him. Hughes managed to evade them, raising further questions about his whereabouts. An arrest warrant has been issued by the Philadelphia Police Department in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service.
Events of the Day
On the morning of the incident, Hughes allegedly left his residence, boarded a bus, and headed downtown. Around 5:30 a.m., he donned the distinctive mask and reportedly began harassing passersby, recording his actions on a cell phone.
A jogger became a primary target near City Hall. Hughes allegedly threatened her, causing her to suffer a leg injury while escaping. This injury resulted in the need for significant medical treatment.

Escape and Identification
Despite being confronted by Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) officers at Suburban Station, Hughes managed to evade capture. He reportedly removed his mask, revealing a black mask underneath, and left the area via bus.
Later, investigators obtained footage without the mask in Hughes’s apartment complex. This footage, along with identification by SEPTA officers, has helped confirm his identity.
Authorities believe Hughes sought personal amusement or monetized social media content through the incident. Despite remaining at large, Hughes has known connections to California and Nevada.
