Undecided voters in Iowa and Georgia express deep anxiety about the economy, focusing on rising costs as they consider their choices in two pivotal Senate races. These states are crucial battlegrounds as Election Day approaches. Conversations with focus groups, organized by Syracuse University along with Engagious and Sago, observed by NBC News, highlighted these concerns.
Patty O., a 59-year-old Georgia Republican who supported Trump in 2024, said, “Nothing has gotten better as far as the cost of living, inflation—food is astronomical, gas. The cost of living is so high right now.” Patty’s sentiments reflect those of a diverse group including six independents, five Republicans, and one Democrat. Nine voters in the group supported Trump in the past election, with three backing Kamala Harris.
The group revealed that nearly all voters feel more anxious about the economy today than when Trump resumed office. Eight participants noted that Trump wasn’t focusing enough on economic issues. These insights come as the fight for Senate control intensifies, with Iowa and Georgia at the center of attention.
