Jed York, owner of the San Francisco 49ers, encountered legal troubles in Ohio over the weekend. York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, on charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, later pleading no contest to these misdemeanors.
York was released after posting a $5,000 bond and was sentenced to one day in jail for both offenses. The sentences were served concurrently, with York credited for one day already served. Additionally, he received a fine of $1,150.
According to court records, York originally faced a charge of engaging in prostitution. Prosecutors, however, amended this to disorderly conduct. A cellphone taken from York was returned, and $160 seized was allocated to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of his plea agreement. York also completed an online course related to the incident.
Responses from the 49ers and the NFL were not immediately available following York’s arrest.
York, aged 46, has been at the helm of the 49ers since 2008, after assuming control from his parents. He became the principal owner in 2024. Despite early difficulties, the team has consistently performed well since the hiring of coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch in 2017. Under York’s leadership, the 49ers have reached the Super Bowl three times, although they faced defeat in the 2012, 2019, and 2023 seasons.
York also played a crucial role in the construction of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with the team relocating from San Francisco to the new venue in 2014. The stadium has hosted major events, including two Super Bowls, a World Cup, and a College Football Playoff title game.
