Ohio Man Arrested for Threats Against Congressman and Trump

An Ohio man, Alex Justin Miller, has been arrested by the FBI for allegedly making violent threats against Rep. Randy Fine, a Jewish Republican congressman, and former President Donald Trump. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reports that Miller, aged 26, sent what is deemed a ‘true threat’ to Fine and his family. In the message, Miller allegedly called Fine and his family Nazis and threatened to set their house on fire, expressing a desire to hang Fine’s head from the White House rooftops. He concluded with a call for ‘DEATH TO RANDY FINE AND DEATH TO DONALD TRUMP.’ If convicted, Miller could face up to five years in prison for interstate transmission of a threat to injure.

The threat was investigated by the FBI, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Secret Service and Capitol Police, according to the DOJ. Congressman Fine emphasized the serious nature of the threat, distinguishing it from a simple nasty message. He reported the threat immediately, recognizing it as a legitimate threat on his life.

Fine received the threatening email on the morning of the primary Election Day in Florida and pointed out the need for increased protection for federal officials. He highlighted that the threat originated from outside Florida, indicating the individual wasn’t a local disgruntled constituent.

Law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending Miller within 36 hours. Fine expressed gratitude towards the law enforcement agencies involved, including the U.S. Attorney, FBI, Capitol Police, and Florida law enforcement, for taking the threat seriously.
