In a memorable “Monday Night Football” matchup, the Buffalo Bills faced off against the Los Angeles Rams. In this game, Matthew Stafford reached a historic milestone never before seen in NFL history.
Stafford, the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player, threw his 150th touchdown pass while playing for the Rams. This accomplishment makes him the only quarterback in league history to achieve 150 touchdown passes with two different teams. Stafford previously played for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.
In the game against the Bills, Stafford displayed his exceptional skills. He completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards, leading to three touchdowns. Two of these touchdowns were in the fourth quarter. Stafford connected with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams during the Rams’ scoring surge after finding Adams in the second quarter earlier.
Despite this historic achievement, the Rams suffered a loss. They were on the brink of defeating the Bills and improving their record to 3-2. However, overtime didn’t go as planned for the home team.
The game at SoFi Stadium was thrilling and might have seemed like a Super Bowl preview. The Rams trailed 13-7 at halftime but made a strong comeback in the second half, scoring 27 points. A rushing touchdown by Kyren Williams tied the game late in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime.
In overtime, after the Bills’ James Cook fumbled for the second time, Stafford guided the Rams into position for a game-winning field goal. Unfortunately, the Bills blocked the attempt. Josh Allen then led Buffalo down the field, resulting in Tyler Bass’s 45-yard field goal for a 37-34 victory.
This defeat left Stafford and the Rams with a disappointing 2-3 season start. They were considered favorites for the next Super Bowl but have faced early-injury challenges, including those affecting Myles Garrett. Garrett joined the team from the Cleveland Browns during the offseason and went on Injured Reserve in mid-September after knee surgery. Head coach Sean McVay expressed the desire for Garrett to regain full performance before returning to play.
With Stafford’s recent milestone, he places himself among the elite quarterbacks. He ranks sixth all-time in touchdown passes, needing over 70 more to surpass Brett Favre in the fifth spot.
