The District Attorney charged Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs with two domestic misdemeanors. The investigation revealed new evidence, specifically surveillance video from Jacobs’ garage. This video is linked to the alleged battery case.
District Attorney David L. Lasee stated that after initial police inquiries into Jacobs’ alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend, further investigation led to the discovery of a security camera capturing the incident.
According to Lasee’s report, Jacobs’ ex-girlfriend, referred to as ANM, claimed that she was thrown to the ground, striking her head and causing an injury. Jacobs allegedly took her phone while she was on the ground. ANM struggled to walk back inside after the incident.
The surveillance footage reportedly aligns with ANM’s testimony. The video captures Jacobs taking ANM’s phone and later damaging it. While not currently available for public viewing, the video will likely serve as evidence in Jacobs’ case.
Josh Jacobs now faces charges of misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property. Following the incident on May 23, he surrendered to authorities on May 26. His legal team argues for his innocence, but the video evidence may complicate his situation and affect his NFL career.
This situation recalls the case of Ray Rice, whose NFL career ended after a video of a physical altercation with his then-fiancée was made public. The NFL disapproves of violence and such incidents involving its players are often met with strict consequences.
The Packers acknowledge the charges and intend to cooperate with the NFL’s investigation. They currently withhold additional comments.
The NFL is scrutinizing the matter under its Personal Conduct Policy, which could lead to disciplinary action against Jacobs. He could be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, receiving pay but unable to play.
