A New York Democrat, Chris Gallant, addresses photos from a private BDSM-themed session as he campaigns for a Congressional seat. His attorney, Sara Azari, clarified that these images were taken during a consensual session with a former partner. Gallant, a figure with a background as a military pilot, union leader, firefighter, and public servant, is the Democratic nominee for New York’s 1st Congressional District.
Azari explained, “The photographs are authentic and were taken during a private, consensual photo session involving Chris and his then-partner, with whom he was in a committed four-year relationship.” The session was intended for personal fun, with a limited agreement allowing Mr. S Leather, a San Francisco-based fetish retailer, to use select images for specific products. Gallant had since requested the removal of the photos from the company’s site as his public service aspirations grew.
Images surfaced online and were no longer available on the company’s site as of Monday. Internet archives showed they were displayed online between 2011 and 2020. The New York Post also published another photo of Gallant, depicting him in his underwear, taken during the Invasion of the Pines event on Fire Island in 2007. The district he aims to represent includes parts of Fire Island.
“The venue regularly hosted themed and promotional events, and the image depicts Chris working during one such event,” Azari’s statement continued. “It reflects nothing more than the setting and circumstances of his employment.”
She emphasized that presenting these images out of context directs false assumptions about Gallant’s private life and should not distract voters from key issues. She stated the photos don’t reflect Gallant’s public record as he competes against incumbent Representative Nick LaLota, a Long Island Republican.
Despite the backdrop of these photos, Gallant remains committed to his campaign, focusing on earning the constituents’ trust. Recent polling puts LaLota at a 70% chance of reelection. Gallant, with a history of service in the New York Army National Guard and as an air traffic controller, promises decisive leadership. His campaign underscores his dedication to applying his experience in split-second decision-making to his Congressional work.
Polling data suggests LaLota faces challenges with only 32% of constituents approving his job performance as of January. Furthermore, former President Donald Trump’s unpopularity within the district could influence the election outcome, with 50% expressing disapproval of Trump’s job performance.
