A car with bullet holes was spotted in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. Austin Councilmember Mike Siegel provided a photo confirming the evidence of gunfire.

A federal immigration agent shot and wounded a man in the area. Siegel reported seeing at least two bullet holes on the passenger side of the man’s vehicle. He shared this information in an interview near his home, close to the scene of the incident.

Video footage showed at least one individual not injured but restrained in handcuffs. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson informed the press that the victim was in a serious yet stable condition.

“This is a terrible incident that we were hoping to avoid in our community,” stated Councilmember Siegel. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and accountability if any wrongdoing by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer is found.

The specifics leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Attempts by NPR to contact the Department of Homeland Security for comments were unsuccessful.

Community members gathered at the location to protest. This incident adds to a series of violent episodes involving ICE agents. Mayor Watson expressed his anger and frustration, noting the similarity of events in other cities like Chicago and Minneapolis during immigration enforcement operations.

Texas has been collaborating closely with federal authorities on immigration issues. Since President Trump’s assumption of office last year, the Texas Department of Public Safety has worked in conjunction with ICE.

Congressman Greg Casar, representing Austin, called for an independent investigation into the incident. He criticized ICE for previous shootings, highlighting inconsistencies in official statements compared to video proof. He referenced a past case in Minneapolis where video proved a claim false.

He added, “Over and over, ICE has shot people and then lied about what happened. We demand truth, transparency, and accountability.”

This shooting is the second such ICE-related incident in Texas this year. Previously in Houston, agents killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a traffic stop in July. Araujo was not the target of the warrant in execution.

Earlier in the year, another incident occurred. The first death involved Ruben Ray Martinez in South Padre Island on March 15, 2025, marking a deadly start under President Trump’s second term.
