Gov. Abbott Expands Diesel Use Amid High Fuel Prices

On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a statewide disaster in response to rising fuel prices. This decision permits the commercial use of dyed diesel, which is typically reserved for agricultural purposes. Additionally, the regulations have been adjusted to increase the permissible weight for certain truck loads. Some federal diesel emission rules have also been suspended to alleviate the current fuel cost crisis.

The state’s move is aimed at addressing the economic pressures caused by high diesel prices. The statewide average price for a gallon of diesel is $5.86, according to AAA reports. This situation has prompted action to facilitate easier transportation and reduce operating costs for businesses reliant on diesel fuel.

The changes are expected to provide temporary relief to industries facing challenges due to inflated fuel costs. This decision comes amid a tight reelection race for Gov. Abbott, reflecting his administration’s efforts to address immediate economic concerns for Texans.
