Journey Drummer Deen Castronovo Hospitalized During Tulsa Concert

Journey’s drummer, Deen Castronovo, experienced a medical emergency during the band’s concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The incident occurred on a Thursday when the group stopped their performance after just two songs, asking fans to pray for Castronovo. The 62-year-old drummer was then taken to a hospital, as seen in video footage shared online.

Keyboardist Jonathan Cain spoke to the audience, expressing apologies for the interruption and urging the attendees to keep Castronovo in their prayers. He addressed the crowd by saying, “We’re going to see what happens as this progresses. It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re very sorry. We’re hoping it’s only a delay, but please—I’m sorry. Don’t worry. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you.”

Guitarist Neal Schon explained to the local media how the band planned to proceed with the event. Castronovo was en route to the hospital, and the concert resumed with the band’s longtime drum technician, Steve Toomey.

“Please give a big hand for Steve Toomey. We’ll be back in about 15 minutes. We love you all, we’re really sorry about the inconvenience,” Schon added.

The incident took place as Journey continued their farewell tour with performances lined up through November. Despite no confirmed details about Castronovo’s condition, lead singer Arnel Pineda gave a hopeful comment: “He’s gonna be fine. Too much Gatorade.”

Schon later dedicated the performance to Castronovo, expressing optimism about his recovery. “This concert’s for Deen tonight. I’d love you all to pray for him. Everybody’s been going through a lot. I think he’s going to be fine,” Schon stated.

The cause of Castronovo’s medical emergency remains unknown, with no public disclosure provided. Fox News Digital sought comments from Journey’s representatives.

The medical issue arose amidst Journey’s “Final Frontier Tour,” featuring band members such as Schon, Cain, Pineda, Castronovo, keyboardist Jason Derlatka, and bassist Todd Jensen. This North American tour began in February and plans to wrap up on November 28 in San Francisco.

Schon previously described the tour as a tribute to Journey’s music and the loyal fans. “The music we’ve created together is amazing. And so, you have to celebrate that music with the fans. The fans are incredible,” Schon remarked in an interview with Rolling Stone.
