Montana Democratic Chair Endorses Independent Candidate for Senate

Shannon O’Brien has become the latest figure in the state to diverge from the Democratic Party’s official stance. She has offered her support to independent candidate Seth Bodnar, rather than the party’s own nominee, Alani Bankhead, in the race for Montana’s open Senate seat.

This shift comes after O’Brien, who served as the chair of the Montana Democratic Party, announced her resignation on Monday. Her decision raises significant questions about the level of endorsement for Bankhead within the party.

In a statement on MS NOW, O’Brien expressed concerns about Bankhead’s policies. She mentioned doubts regarding Bankhead’s commitment to critical issues, including a woman’s right to choose, support for working individuals, and her perspective on poverty.

The development has come to light just weeks after a candidate forum where Bankhead participated in Whitefish, drawing scrutiny and attention from various party members and political observers.
