The White House has requested Kimberly Guilfoyle to step down from her position as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece.
During her inaugural appearance as White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia addressed inquiries regarding rumors of Guilfoyle’s possible dismissal over alleged misconduct. Zacharia stated, “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”
Guilfoyle, aged 57, is the former partner of President’s son, Donald Trump Jr, and previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom. She has been serving as a diplomat since November 2025.
Recently, Guilfoyle has encountered criticism following reports that claimed she solicited funds from Eric Deters, a long-time Trump ally. The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle supposedly asked Deters to pay off her significant American Express credit card bill in return for access to the administration. In a message shared by Deters, Guilfoyle reportedly wrote, “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.”
Her legal representatives, David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall, denied any wrongdoing on Guilfoyle’s part. They stated the funds were for services rendered, including speaking engagements and public appearances prior to her nomination. According to a two-page statement released on October 12, Deters allegedly owed Guilfoyle about $150,000 for these activities.
“Ambassador Guilfoyle has served, and will continue to serve, with integrity, honor, and distinction. We are evaluating all available legal remedies to collect this debt and any other potential causes of action,” stated her lawyers.
Vice President JD Vance commented on the matter last week, noting, “These are allegations… let’s actually see what the facts are, let’s see what the truth is. And obviously if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it.”
On Monday, President Trump mentioned to reporters that he was considering the possibility of dismissing Guilfoyle, saying, “We are not happy.”
This is a developing story and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
