Christina Applegate recently shared a significant update about her health. Though doctors have informed her that she does not have multiple sclerosis (MS), the news has left Applegate feeling uncertain and back at ‘square one’.
On her “MeSsy” podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate, age 54, opened up about her experience. She described how her doctor told her, “Congratulations, you don’t have MS.” However, this revelation did not bring the relief one might expect. “I was not happy at all,” Applegate confessed, noting how others were joyful while she felt anything but.
Despite the change in diagnosis, Applegate still faces debilitating health issues. She emphasized that her condition has not improved. “If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways,” she said. Her doctors are currently investigating what might be causing her health problems.
“There’s a pretty damn high number of misdiagnoses with MS,”
Applegate highlighted, reflecting on her own situation. This acknowledgment hints that her experience is not isolated.
The actress revealed how this news has affected her emotionally, feeling as though she let others down. Known as a public figure for MS awareness alongside Sigler, this change has shaken her sense of purpose. “Now I don’t have a reason, and it’s very unnerving,” she added.
Applegate also addressed how her ongoing pain and mobility issues have impacted her mental health, leading to depression. She expressed sorrow at losing her career and the life she once knew, saying, “I lost my job. I lost everything.” Her health struggles have been a significant part of her life for more than five years.
The actress explained that despite no longer having an MS diagnosis, her physical challenges remain. “I still have to use wheelchairs,” she mentioned, confirming that her daily reality has not changed. Applegate initially made her MS diagnosis public in 2021.
This journey has also influenced her role as a parent. Applegate spoke about how her condition affects her relationship with her daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble. She cherishes the moments they share during car rides, even though it’s challenging. “I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed,’” she said.
Applegate maintains her determination to be truthful about her situation. She wants to depict an authentic picture of her life, stating, “People’s lives f—ing suck sometimes. So I’m being as honest and raw as I possibly can.”
Her candid conversations reveal the impact her health issues have on her family, particularly on Sadie. “She didn’t know this. It was like losing the mom she had to this f—ing thing,” Applegate said, recognizing the emotional strain on her daughter.
