Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico opted to forgo a Monday night rally led by Senator Bernie Sanders in El Paso. Instead, Talarico held campaign events in North Texas, focusing on his race against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton as it nears the finish line.
Sanders joined former Representative Beto O’Rourke and Democratic Representatives Greg Casar and Veronica Escobar at the Abraham Chavez Theatre in El Paso. This event coincided with the start of early voting for the November 3 midterm elections.
Meanwhile, Talarico’s ‘Clear Eyes, Full Hearts’ tour led him to North Crowley High School in Fort Worth and included a stop in Denton. His campaign has been pressing forward as Texas prepares for the upcoming elections.
Senator Bernie Sanders and Beto O’Rourke unite at an El Paso rally to challenge wealthy political influence during the midterm elections.
Fox News Digital inquired about Talarico’s decision to hold a separate event rather than join the El Paso rally. The rally was used by other key Democrats to boost Talarico’s candidacy and criticize Republican campaign spending.
“They have spent $368 million against one man, the next senator from Texas, James Talarico,” O’Rourke stated to the rally attendees, highlighting the intensity of the campaign.
Casar, speaking at the event, emphasized that Talarico’s election could help push forward the Democrats’ legislative efforts. Sanders, while not mentioning Talarico specifically, targeted wealthy donors and their impact on elections more broadly.
“What you are seeing are multibillionaires pouring millions into campaigns,” Sanders commented, urging early voting as a defense against such influences.
In Fort Worth, Talarico echoed these sentiments by addressing financial influence in politics. He criticized Paxton and Elon Musk for their roles in funding.
“We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption crisis,” Talarico told supporters.
He portrayed his campaign as transcending traditional party lines. “This election is about more than the Democratic or Republican Party,” he noted.
Talarico and Paxton are contesting the Senate seat vacated by Republican Senator John Cornyn. This race is under national scrutiny as Democrats chase their first Texas Senate win since 1988.
