Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson reports on the resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll. Alleged policy disagreements led to this decision. President Donald Trump appointed Adam Telle as the acting secretary.
A Fox News Sunday panel examined these leadership changes and discussed military supply levels and a U.S. naval blockade.
War Secretary Pete Hegseth has dismissed a senior strategic planner amid a probe into classified information leaks concerning wars in Iran, Ukraine, and other sensitive areas, according to a Department of War official.
The official revealed that Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia failed three polygraph tests related to these alleged leaks. The investigation is now with the Justice Department.
Sylvia is under suspicion for meeting journalists beyond Pentagon grounds, allegedly intending to leak classified information. This follows Hegseth’s new media rule that requires reporters to be escorted within the building.
Fox News Digital reached out to the DOJ and Sylvia for comments but received no reply before publication.
Sylvia, director of the Joint Staff’s Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy (J5), played a senior role in shaping military strategy and advising the chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Sources state the J5 has been sidelined since spring.
A Pentagon official emphasized that Sylvia was not directly involved in planning for the Iran war, which falls under U.S. Central Command, led by Adm. Brad Cooper.
The Atlantic first broke the news of Sylvia’s removal, attributing it to tensions between Hegseth and Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby. Sylvia is the second officer removed from the J5 role under Hegseth, following Lt. Gen. John McGee.
Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims, former director of the Joint Staff, was also removed earlier. These changes occur as rumors suggest the Pentagon is preparing for renewed military action against Iran.
U.S. officials have cautioned Middle East allies to brace for possible fresh strikes following upcoming midterm elections and potential Iranian reactions, with additional U.S. forces being stationed in the region.
A West Point graduate from 1994, Sylvia has served over thirty years in the Army. His career includes deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, during which he was injured in combat.
Before leading the J5 since December, Sylvia commanded the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell and formerly served as the J5’s vice director.
Sylvia’s removal is part of a larger reshaping of senior military leadership under Hegseth. Around two dozen senior military figures, including generals and admirals, have been dismissed or left during his tenure.
