Election Day Vigilance
AI companies are following in the footsteps of social media firms, maintaining heightened alertness for potential misinformation risks during Election Day. The industry faces mounting pressure to ensure their systems provide voters with accurate information and prevent election interference. Strategies include setting training parameters, limiting image generation, and establishing ‘election war rooms’ to monitor any misuse of AI technology.
Such measures mirror Meta’s initiative in 2018, where they launched an election war room operation to combat misinformation on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. These efforts aim to navigate the anticipated challenges and aftermath of Election Day.
AI and Democracy Works Partnership
OpenAI reports that its AI model, ChatGPT, relayed voting information to users over 16 million times during the current midterm cycle. This data dissemination stems from a partnership with the nonprofit Democracy Works, which collaborates with tech firms to ensure voters receive timely, accurate election information. As of the day before Election Day, ChatGPT accessed Democracy Works data more than 16.5 million times, offering crucial resources including voter registration details.
Response to Voting Machine Issues
In Westchester County, New York, voters experienced widespread ballot scanning issues. The ballot scanners encountered malfunctions that led to the rejection of votes submitted across multiple polling locations. New York Attorney General Letitia James addressed the issue to reassure voters, stating her office was closely monitoring the situation in coordination with state and local election boards as they worked to resolve the problem.
National Security Modernization at OpenAI
OpenAI has appointed former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll as a senior counselor focused on national security modernization. Driscoll will guide the AI company in using technology to bolster national and cybersecurity measures, alongside engaging with U.S. allies. His advisory role emphasizes advancing security protocols amidst increasing reliance on AI technologies.

The incident involved a ‘multi-stage campaign,’ including a malicious software installation and deceptive job interview tactics. Analysts and the FBI have linked the operation to North Korea.
Binance detailed the attack process, revealing an engineer’s download of tampered code for an AI tool in June that led to compromised infrastructure. Subsequently, an engineer was tricked into downloading malicious code during a fake job interview, which initiated unauthorized digital activities.
Democrats’ Concerns with Elon Musk’s Platform X
