Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell did not play in Sunday’s match against the New Orleans Saints. Earlier in the week, O’Connell shared news of his father’s passing. Before disabling his social media account, he posted a heartfelt tribute to his parents on Instagram.

“It is with immense sadness that I share the passing of my Dad, Jim. My Dad was a gift to me and to so many others.”

O’Connell expressed that all who knew his father appreciated his positive influence. The family is deeply saddened and is seeking comfort in their faith. They are grateful for the support received during this difficult period and request continued prayers as they remember Jim’s impact.

O’Connell referenced the Heidelberg Catechism in his grieving, highlighting his faith. He finds solace in the belief that he belongs entirely to his Savior, Jesus Christ. His message concluded with a poignant farewell:

“Rest in peace, Dad. We love you and will miss you more than words can say.”

Aidan O’Connell joined the Raiders after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. In his NFL career so far, he has played 21 games with 3,932 yards and 20 touchdowns. The season began with him as the third-string quarterback, behind Kirk Cousins and first overall draft pick Fernando Mendoza.
