Airbnb Offers World Cup Tickets as Part of Select Rental Stays

Fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup might find a new way to secure match tickets bypassing FIFA’s typical ticketing process. Airbnb recently announced that certain rentals across all 16 host cities for the World Cup will include complimentary match tickets as part of the stay.

Airbnb’s Unique Offer

According to Dave Stephenson, Airbnb’s chief business officer, this initiative allows Airbnb hosts to offer more than just lodging. It offers an authentic experience by enabling fans to follow their teams across different tournament venues. Select homes in each host city will include free tickets, providing a bundled package of accommodation and stadium access. However, availability is limited and not every listing qualifies for this offer.

Significance of the Offer

World Cup tickets are traditionally hard to come by and can be quite costly, with prices ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. By combining tickets with lodging, Airbnb aims to help travelers gain access to high-demand matches that might otherwise be sold out.

Data indicate that while the World Cup could boost tourism, demand for hotels and short-term rentals has been inconsistent. Offering free tickets could stimulate bookings in slower markets.

Details for Travelers

Starting June 10, Airbnb began offering free FIFA World Cup tickets with select bookings. These eligible listings, marked by a soccer ball icon, are found in all 16 host cities across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Guests booking these listings for dates in June and July can receive these tickets.

“I grew up playing soccer—it’s been part of my life since I could walk. Getting to share that love of the game with guests, and actually get them into a World Cup match, is something I never expected when I first listed my home on Airbnb,” said Federico Zimmerman, an Airbnb host in Dallas, Texas.

Airbnb plans to distribute over 1,300 tickets through this program. Additional World Cup-related experiences, such as events with former players, are also available but separate from the ticket-included stays.

Ticket Pricing Insights

The cost of World Cup tickets in 2026 will vary significantly:

  • Entry-level tickets will start at around $60 for group-stage matches.
  • Knockout-stage games typically range from $100 to over $1,000.
  • Final tickets can reach several thousand dollars, with some estimates exceeding $6,000.

Given FIFA’s dynamic pricing, actual costs can fluctuate based on demand, teams involved, and host cities. Airbnb’s bundled offer provides travelers an option for more predictable pricing.

To participate, travelers can search for World Cup host city rentals on match dates and look for listings with a soccer ball icon. After booking, they will receive ticket details from the host. Tickets are available for each guest up to the listing’s occupancy limit, with bookings phased according to tournament stages. Airbnb noted that prices for eligible homes average about $385 per night, varying by city and property.

Accommodations Challenge

Despite the anticipated tourism surge, initial data suggest that the World Cup’s impact on accommodations is uneven. About 80 percent of hotels in host cities report occupancy below expectations, according to the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

For instance, in Philadelphia, rooms have remained available around match dates, which disappointed initial forecasts. Similarly, approximately 60 percent of Airbnb and Vrbo rentals in the Philadelphia area are occupied on game days, a rise from less than half booked by May, based on AirDNA data.

A spokesperson for Airbnb stated that the FIFA partnership launched a year ago, emphasizing that hosts are offering fans a consistent opportunity to follow their teams throughout the tournament.

Next Steps

While Airbnb has not directly linked the ticket promotion to slower-than-anticipated bookings, its timing aligns with the tournament’s start and seeks to attract last-minute travelers seeking to capitalize on these incentives.
