A tragic accident claimed the life of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna on Thursday at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The 23-year-old from North Carolina was involved in a heavy equipment accident, officials confirmed on Friday.
Eneluna served in the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight. The unit supports Vandenberg’s launch, test, and range operations by maintaining essential infrastructure such as roads and airfields under the U.S. Space Force. Vandenberg is tasked with launching satellites into polar orbit and conducting intercontinental ballistic missile tests.
The base expressed profound sadness in a statement: “It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, a member of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron.”
In the accident, Eneluna was operating heavy machinery when it rolled down an embankment. No other personnel were harmed. The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office is yet to determine the official cause of death. A Safety Investigation Board is reviewing the incident.
Originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Eneluna also spent part of his childhood in the Philippines. He enlisted in the military on March 5, 2024, and was assigned to Vandenberg in August of that year. There, he joined the “Dirt Boyz,” a group of pavement and heavy equipment specialists. His qualities and work ethic earned respect and admiration from his peers.
Col. James T. Horne III, U.S. Space Force commander at the base, remarked, “He made a lasting impression on his teammates through his character, dedication, and genuine care for others.”
Lt. Col. Seth Poulsen, 30th CES commander, highlighted Eneluna’s embodiment of Airman qualities: “He brought out the best in everyone. He was always ready to work, always willing to help, and always had a positive attitude.”
