The U.S. State Department has issued an updated travel advisory for Italy, maintaining a “Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution” alert. This update includes concerns about terrorism and crime.

Several arrests related to terrorism have occurred in Italy in recent months. In August, a 16-year-old in northern Italy was detained for spreading jihadist and pro-ISIS content online. Similarly, in June, another 16-year-old near Bologna faced arrest after authorities allegedly found jihadist materials and weapons-making manuals in his possession.
The State Department advisory cautions, “There is risk of terrorist violence, including terrorist attacks and other activity in Italy.”

The advisory also highlights concerns about petty crime, particularly in popular tourist areas and on public transport. Crimes like purse snatching, pickpocketing, and car break-ins are noted as common threats.
