On Saturday, social media personalities Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami. This followed the announcement of new criminal charges by British prosecutors, who also called for their extradition to the United Kingdom.
The Tate brothers, known for having millions of followers online and sharing content that many see as promoting misogynistic views, were detained by the U.S. Marshals Service. The agency’s spokesperson, Brady McCarron, confirmed the arrest to The Associated Press (AP).
The arrests were driven by the U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which has authorized additional charges against the brothers. The charges involve allegations from four more victims, prompting a request for their extradition from the United States.
In a statement released on Sunday, the CPS outlined the new allegations against Andrew Tate, aged 39. These include seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and 19 charges linked to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
Tristan Tate, 38, is facing one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts related to trafficking for sexual exploitation. The supposed offenses are reported to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. With the new charges, the total number of alleged victims stands at seven.
The Tate brothers have consistently denied any wrongdoing. After their arrest, Joseph McBride, the attorney representing them, told the BBC, “the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent.”
