Anne Hathaway’s Journey with Vision Loss and Surgery

Anne Hathaway recently shared her experience of battling a medical condition for ten years before undergoing surgery. During a guest appearance on The New York Times’ podcast “Popcast,” the actress, known for her role in “Devil Wears Prada 2,” detailed that she was “legally blind” in one eye throughout her 30s due to an early-onset cataract.

“This might be too much information,” she stated. “I was half blind for 10 years.” Hathaway continued, “It impacted my vision so much that I was basically legally blind out of my left eye, and I wound up getting surgery.” She realized the extent of her condition only when she could see clearly again.

Anne Hathaway “I’ve calmed down since then,” Hathaway added. “I didn’t realize it was taxing my nervous system.” Reflecting on her improved vision, she expressed gratitude for what she calls a “miracle.”

“I appreciate vision because every day, I wake up and see clearly. It’s a miracle,” Hathaway explained.

The Mayo Clinic describes a cataract as the clouding of the lens of the eye. This can result in vision as if looking through a frosty or fogged-up window, making tasks like reading and driving challenging.

While Hathaway feels connected to her improved vision, she also addressed recent rumors about plastic surgery. Despite preferring not to comment on personal matters, she felt compelled to clarify misconceptions. “People assume things as facts,” Hathaway said. “The speculation was becoming distracting.” She denied making any significant medical decisions and emphasized “it’s just two braids.” However, she playfully added, “I might still get a facelift someday.”
