The Arizona Cardinals will miss their No. 3 overall pick from the 2026 NFL Draft for at least a week. Head coach Mike LaFleur announced on Saturday that running back Jeremiyah Love suffered an ankle injury during the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Love felt fine after the game, but soreness developed the following day. “He was in great spirits, even Friday,” LaFleur noted. “But we’ll keep him out this week as we let it heal. So, a little bit more sore than we were anticipating.”
When asked about the injury’s impact on Love’s Week 1 availability, LaFleur focused on immediate practice plans. “This week, and then we’ll kind of go from there and reevaluate,” he said. “All the focus is on August 15th, Saturday. Here we are in our Tempe block of practice. We’ll kind of reevaluate going into next week. But he will be out this week.”
Love will miss the second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. In the first game, he recorded 11 carries for 58 yards and caught three passes for 14 yards.
With Love sidelined, Tyler Allgeier will start, supported by Bam Knight and Corey Kiner. Veteran running back James Conner is still recovering from a foot injury that kept him out of 14 games last season.
Unfortunately, Love isn’t the only rookie with an injury. Second-round pick Chase Bisontis, a candidate for starting right guard, tore the MCL in his left knee during the game. Bisontis will be placed on injured reserve and is set to undergo knee surgery.
LaFleur expressed sympathy for Bisontis, acknowledging the setback’s gravity. “He’ll be out for a good amount of time, if not the whole year,” LaFleur said. “Sucks for him. Always think about the player first. Sucks for the Cardinals too. He’s a good player but, more importantly, you hate it for the player.”
